The major motive of celebrating this day is to provide opportunities and support to the girls in India. We all are aware that gender equality along with female foeticide is the major issue faced by the girls in India. Hence, there is no doubt that the government has taken a right step towards the improvement mission of our young girls. Even Obama said that when women are educated, then their country becomes more prosperous and stronger.

On this occasion, various functions are organized by the government NGOs all over the country. The special part of these proceedings is the public speeches subjecting various matters such as child development, health, education, women, mahila mandals, etc. Many girl students are awarded on this day at the state level functions for their achievements in various fields. Special songs and dance performances dedicated to girls are also a part of these functions.

OBJECTIVE OF NATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY

  • To increase awareness among people about girl rights in the Indian society.
  • Offer new opportunities to the girls of our society.
  • To try and remove all the inequalities faced by a girl child in India.
  • To ensure that a girl gets value and respect in the country.
  • To work in order to educate people and remove gender discrimination.

RIGHTS GIVEN TO GIRLS IN INDIA

Thankfully the government has worked on various schemes that can make a girl’s life better in India. These schemes are given below:

  • Sex determination during the pregnancy is banned by the government of India.
  • Child marriages of girls are also an illegal matter declared by the government.
  • Education system also got improved for girls as free education is given to both the boys and girls till the age of 14.
  • In order to fight with poverty, malnutrition, and infant mortality, antenatal care has been made compulsory for all the pregnant women.
  • There are many laws made by the government to empower women of India such as Anti-MTP, Anti-Sati, etc.
  • There is a scheme named “Save the Girl Child”, introduced by the Indian government in order to save the girl child.

Every child in this country, be it a boy or a girl, is the future of our country. Therefore, they must be treated equally by giving opportunities and rights. Indian people must understand that girls bring the country to gloom and they must not kill them in their wombs. We all must take a pledge on this day that we will end gender discrimination and work together to create a better environment for girls to live in India.
