Maharashtra Day : Maharashtra Day falls on May 1st since in the year 1960, on this day, the state of Bombay was divided into two and the act under which it was done was ‘Bombay Reorganization Act 1960’. The two states are Gujarat and Maharashtra. Right before the existing state came into being, Bombay comprised people with various languages in the form of Kutchi, Konkani, Marathi and Gujarati. There was a demand for a separate state by the Sanyukt Maharasthra Andolan. Due to the high protest scenes, the act was passed by the parliament which created a division to the multilingual state of Bombay

There was a slight confrontation with regards to ‘Bombay’ between the newly formed states. Both of them eagerly wanted that. However, on the basis of how Marathi was widely spoken in Maharashtra, it didn’t become hard for the results, which are there for us to see, as Bombay became a part of Maharashtra

How Maharashtra Day is celebrated?

The celebration starts with a parade at Shivaji Park, Dadar. Since, the day speaks about Maharashtra culture and traditions, the Governor of the state, State reserve police force, along with Mumbai police prominently takes part. The day also marks various cultural events. There is a public holiday where government offices, banks, schools etc are off. Various noted personalities ranging from different backgrounds in the form of sportsmen, police officials, doctors etc are honored for their immense contribution to the state on this auspicious day of Maharashtra.

Significance of capital city of Maharashtra

Mumbai, being the capital city is also the financial capital which is equally known for manufacturing and service sector.

How can we miss mentioning about the movie sector which predominantly began in the 1930s and has been a major landmark in not only the country, but also in the whole world where Hindi language is the dominant language of the movies.

There has been a wide section of movies numbering in thousands, right from ‘Bombay Talkies’ to ‘Angrezi medium’, Bollywood has been an epitome of changing lives of people. It is the city which is also known for fulfilling the stomachs of the people, thanks to a wide range of employment opportunities as people from the rest of the country do pay a visit in search of lucrative opportunities.

The day also witnesses the pledge which people undertake towards being united while working together with an aim of taking their state to further heights.

Navi Mumbai which has been planned as a satellite city is formed to relieve the stress from Mumbai. Yes, this new city is a newly planned city which has a population of 1 million, while Mumbai is the most populous city which the country has.

The country is proud to have a state which has so much diversity as people from different nooks and corners of the state have made the state their proud homes. Although, there have been few concerning voices about why locals shouldn’t get priority in terms of jobs and work as well.
