History

The International Nurses Day got its origin in 1974 where it took place by the International Council of Nurses with an aim to educate people about the immense role being played by them in the health care sector.

History is the proud witness of the exemplary services which nurses have been imparting in fighting epidemics and pandemics. They are equally at the center stage to put their brave front while compromising on their own health aspect. They play a vital role as they constitute half of the world’s health workers. However, considering the intense need for medical facilities, the requirement for more nurses has certainly become a priority where around 5.9 million nurses are immediately needed.

Nurses are the real fire fighters who have been on their toes fighting the menace of outbreaks or else results have been certainly devastating.

There has been a greater need of the following:-

  • The significance of the day also emphasizes the need for nurses to have continuous access to personal protective equipment which can be put to better use for reducing infection by enhancing the level of care in the process.
  • There is also the need for financial support to be given to nurses so that they can put a stiff fight against various outbreaks
  • The way nurses have been instrumental towards being the true legends in the fights against the epidemics have also necessitated that they should be adequately insured apart from timely pay, sick leave etc

How one should celebrate Nurses Day

The day necessitates you to take out a moment and appreciate the contribution which nurses have been doing for the society. Your little gesture could mean a lot as you don’t need to do fancy things or spend lots of money to showcase your respect for them. An unfortunate part is that many people even overlook the most ‘obvious’, ‘easy’ and ‘quick’ aspect of “Thanking” nurses. They are equally human beings who expect your kind gesture.

If you have a pleasant memory where the nurses have taken care for you, then this is the day to showcase your respect and gratitude for them. You can visit a hospital with a box of chocolates and present them. After all, this small act will mean a lot. There are similarly other ways as well where the patients who have now recuperated from the illness can thank the selfless service which nurses have been imparting to them through ordering cake or pizza as it will mean a lot to them.

It is true that you may forget the act, but they won’t for sure. So create a healthy and smiling world for the health workers who are the ‘actual’ reason for the smiles on the faces of many.
