The victory was obvious given the huge support which the country had gathered through its people who wanted it to be free from external aggression. Hence, a resolution was passed in Goa Assembly in the year 1976 which was in the favor of creating a full statehood. It became a state and Daman and Diu were separated and became a Union Territory.
Goa retains its historical and cultural importance as it reminds of the Portuguese invasion which is reflected through various monuments. Culturally, it is able to preserve its identity as the state prides itself in carrying its legacy for generations.

The people of Goa become a proud witness of various cultural events which the state government organizes in order to remember and honor the struggles done for freeing the territory from external aggression.
