Army Day (INDIA) : Army Day in India is celebrated on 15th of January every year. It is celebrated in remembrance of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa’s Lieutenant General taking over the charge on 15 January 1949 as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in Chief of India.

Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa was born in 1899 in Karnataka and his father Kondera was a revenue officer. K.M.Cariappa led the Indian Army on the western border during the Indo-Pak war in the year 1947.During this time the country was passing through various communal riots as refugees were coming from Pakistan and many were migrating towards Pakistan. During this chaotic environment, in the right time the command of Indian army was handed over to the hands of Indians.Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa became the first Indian Army Chief of Independent India on 15 January 1949.
Army day in India is celebrated in various ways in all headquarters. Army day in India is celebrated in the form of parades and astonishing military shows in various army establishments. The ceremony takes place in Cariappa Parade Ground of Delhi Cantonment, Amar Jawan Jyoti (Flame of the immortal soldier) in New Delhi and other army establishments. Amar Jawan Jyoti is an Indian memorial constructed after the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 to commemorate the martyred and brave unknown soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces who sacrificed their life for their motherland during the war. This is the day when no one wants to miss the chance of giving Salute of honor to those brave soldiers who sacrificed their lived to protect their motherland and maintain integrity in nation.
Various activities like painting, photography, video making, and slogan writing competition are also organized on the occasion of Army Day. The best entries are awarded with prize money and gifts.
In other words it is now right to say that the transfer of power of the army in the hands of an Indian citizens on 15 January is manifested as Army day in India.We feel glad to say that the Indian Army is now one of the most powerful militaries of the world, competing with superpowers like US, Russia and China.
